Dear BERA member,
Places are still available for the BERA Masterclass events (‘Writing a book proposal’) in Glasgow (12 October) and Belfast (14 October).
The workshop aims to help prospective authors get ready for discussion with a publisher about their proposed book.
A framework will be presented for understanding the conceptual and writing work involved in developing a book proposal. Key issues of focus, readership and style will be explained. Common issues such as choosing a publisher, writing before the contract and turning a thesis into a book will be addressed.
Participants will then work on an idea for a book which will be discussed in a proposal clinic.
There will be an opportunity to see successful book proposals, learn about the process of publishing decision-making, and to discuss issues with the presenters.
The events are free to BERA members, but there will be a charge of £20 to non-BERA members.

Addressing educational challenges: the role of ICT 2nd – 5th July 2012 at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK Overview Education systems around the world face many challenges. Educators, parents and administrators frequently look to ICT for possible solutions but the complexity of most social and technical settings makes it difficult to determine appropriate courses of action. This conference will provide an opportunity to explore how ICT can be used successfully to address some of the significant challenges that are faced by education systems.

In line with embedding Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC), raising standards, promoting pupil participation and developing effective leadership and management, collaborative working is a vital tool in creating effective policy and shared practice. Focused primarily at an educational research and professional audience, the findings will be relevant across a range of disciplines, including governmental policy formulation, social care and operational delivery of public services. The wide ranging scope of the conference will be highly applicable for national, regional and local government, education professionals and of direct interest to the general public.
