What really impressed me was the UEL case study presented by Kathy Wright – they do lots to engage pre-entry ITT students using
a virtual school; a survey of last years students showed they had : an online social life; online networks both personal and professional; they stored and shared photos and files; they use online tools to collaborate and create; they expect speed and sophistication and found 10 clicks to the UEL VLE unacceptable. Kathy also talked about the ‘powering up’ of technology by the Obama administration in USA; and New Brunswick (Canada) setting standards for education and ICT access.
Julie Hughes from Wolverhampton speculated on students in 20 years time: avatars. 3D classrooms; virtual staff and students; blending formal/informal classroom and very different journeys into the profession Julie also noted the BECTA 2008 report – only 20% of FE/HE providers ‘fully exploited’ the digital resources available.
The TDA (Tim Tarrant & Claire Moore): European Pedagogical ICT licence (EPICT)- 20 hours plus a 1000 word essay – had excellent results from pilots year 3 plus PGCE students costs £200, .. Sheffield Hallam report this September on how to get an OFSTED ‘outstanding’ by introducing e-safety as part of safeguarding…Dept of Ed offer VITAL E-copyright course
and my favourite talk was by Warren Kidd who does lots of web 2.0 podcasts, video clips etc and his blog pulls in twitter feed, tags the work and lots more blog.uelconnect.org.uk/warren
